TREEmendous Miami Celebrates Ten Years of Planting Trees

Non-profit, all volunteer tree group, TREEmendous Miami has planted more than 6,000 trees in past ten years. We plant along highways, partnered with the restoration of Miami City Cemetery, worked with Downtown Rotary Club and universities and high schools to make our county more beautiful and sustainable.

TREEmendous Miami Celebrates Ten Years of Planting Trees

On Friday, January 22, TREEmendous Miami hosted its first fundraiser to celebrate its tenth anniversary. The successful event took place at JohnMartin's Restaurant in Coral Gables. Nearly 80 people enjoyed the ample organic fare so generously provided by Green Gables Cafe of Coral Gables.

There were numerous auction items that featured a dinner at Ortanique, a dinner in Paradise for Valentine's Day, a Zoom teeth whitening treatment, beautiful silver and stone jewelry items event tickets, books, blown art glass pieces, a table painted with Haitian artwork as well as a two-hour in-home jazz concert by local jazz musicians. In addition the large raffle drawings were enjoyed by the many happy winners.

TREEmendous Miami, a non-profit volunteer group, works to restore and increase the tree canopy in Miami-Dade County. In its 10 year history, TREEmendous Miami has planted more than 6,000 trees. This has been done through city, county and state grants. They have planted and maintained trees at schools, in parks, along main thoroughfares such as US1 and lined numerous neighborhood streets with much needed shade and beautification increasing community pride. The group has engaged thousands of volunteers in the process, including students who have earned Community Service hours by volunteering, while learning about the importance of trees in our environment.

With budget cutbacks, the tree group is looking to match corporate sponsorship for much needed support to continue the community plantings throughout Miami-Dade County. President Steve Pearson stated, "The average American city has a range from 25-40% canopy while Miami has just 10%." A tax-deductible donation to TREEmendous will help further its mission of planting, protecting and preserving trees.
