We've been busy here at Gnosis Arts lately. Business is really taking off, despite the economy. Three of the four departments of our business have enjoyed rapid growth since Q4 of 2009. We wanted to give our readers an update on what going on here.

Piano Lessons

Our studio has grown by leaps and bounds. Under the expert direction of Barbara Ehrlich, piano teacher and CMO, we currently have 13 students! The majority of those students came in December 2009 and January 2010 when Barbara took over and put her CMO cap on. Now the Barbara Ehrlich Piano Studio is thriving, in just a few short weeks.

Wikipedia Writing

In addition to the growth of our piano studio, our writing services have seen much higher demand, in particular, our Wikipedia writing service. We are currently working on several large writing projects, headed up by our PR Manager, Susan Marie Kovalinsky.

Online Public Relations

Quite unintended, our oline PR services have also experienced rapid growth. Clients are showing interest in our Google News Syndication Subscription. And our clients absolutely LOVE our free press release submission site. We love that they are getting good and frequent use out of these services, and we plan to expand our online PR services this year to offer even greater value.

Clothing in disrepair makes great wedding bouquets

They have turn articles of clothing that cannot be donated to a second hand store into beautiful bouquets perfect for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and more. The blooms and leaves are cut and sewn, then assembled using wire and a small amount of glue. Instead of using floral tape they use strips of cloth from these donated items.
Owner and designer Tina Wick adds, “I came up with the idea while I was sleeping. I had to get out of bed and write it down so it wouldn’t be lost in the morning. This makes our flowers more sustainable as well as additional flair and uniqueness.”

South Florida Awarded National Health Information Technology Funding

Miami, FL – On February 12, Kathleen Sebelius, Health and Human Services Secretary, announced that South Florida was awarded $8.5 million in federal funding to establish a South Florida Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center (SFREC). The South Florida area was one of 32 regional extension centers awarded nationwide as part of the nearly $1 Billion Recovery Act Investment in advancing the use of Health Information Technology. The SFREC will support health care professionals in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe Counties with the adoption of electronic medical records. "Health information technology can make our health care system more efficient and improve the quality of care we all receive," said Secretary Sebelius.

The collaborative SFREC initiative includes doctors, hospital systems, medical groups, non-profit organizations, community health centers, universities and private foundations. The SFREC grant was awarded to not-for-profit Miami-based Health Choice Network, a nationally recognized leader in implementing the electronic health records. The co-applicant is the South Florida Health Information Exchange (SFHIE), which is led by the Health Foundation of South Florida. Other major partners include health care leaders Jackson Health System, Broward Health, Memorial Healthcare System, Florida Academy of Family Physicians, Miami Dade and Broward County Medical Associations, the Health Departments of Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe Counties, Miami-Dade Health Action Network, and the South Florida Hospital and Healthcare Association.

"The SFREC will promote the use of health information technology through education, training and technical support. The REC will also help to prepare healthcare professionals to take advantage of federal funding that will be available beginning in 2011 for implementation and support of electronic medical records," said Kevin Kearns, President and CEO of Health Choice Network. Health Choice Network expects to add more than 40 employees during the next three years as the program moves forward. Workforce partners include University of Miami, Florida International University, Miami Dade College, Nova Southeastern University and Broward College.

"This unprecedented funding will position South Florida to use cutting-edge Health Information Technology to improve the health of our community, particularly for vulnerable patients," said Robert Schwartz, M.D., Chair of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine and Community Health and Co-Chair of the SFHIE. "Medical professionals can improve health care by having access to the complete medical history of the patient. This includes medications, laboratory results and social and family history."

The SFREC will initially target physicians and other health care professionals who focus on primary care including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and OB/GYN. During the application phase, more than 1,800 primary care health professionals in the three counties expressed interest in participating in the SFREC. The SFREC will give technical assistance to providers as they integrate a system to support the electronic health record into their practice. The SFREC will coordinate group purchasing, system implementation, and privacy and security training.

"Health information technology has long been a strategic initiative of the Health Foundation of South Florida," said Steve Marcus, CEO. "We are pleased to be a part of this exciting opportunity that supports the health care professionals in our community. Our ultimate goal is to improve the health care delivery to South Floridians."

Engeye Teen Connection Partners with Engeye Scholars and Engeye Health Clinic to Help Ddegeya Village in Uganda

Engeye Teen Connection (ETC) Board of Directors Include Sara Weinman, Brian Hickey and Adriana King

Engeye Teen Connection (ETC) is a new partner with Engeye Scholars and the Engeye Health Clinic. ETC is made up of committed teenagers who want to make a difference in the lives of children and adults in Ddegeya Village. Sara Weinman, a sophomore at Bethlehem High School and Brian Hickey, a sophomore at Shaker High School, started ETC because they wanted to get more involved with the mission of Engeye Scholars. They felt compelled to help the children of Ddegeya and motivated to truly make a difference in a child's life. As a result of their passion and commitment, the ETC Board of Directors (BOD) was created, consisting of Brian Hickey, Sara Weinman and Adriana King. Adriana is a fellow classmate of Sara's at Bethlehem High. The ETC adult advisor is Misty Richards, part of the Engeye Health Clinic BOD and a medical student at Albany Medical College. Together, these three teens and their advisor are working to help raise awareness and advocate for the villagers of Ddegeya, many of whom live on just a dollar a day.

Brian Hickey, member of the ETC BOD, got started with Engeye when he met with John Kalule and Susan Nabukenya from Ddegeya Village during their visit to the United States. John and Susan were flown to the United States from Uganda to help Susan receive proper treatment for severe burns caused by a terrible cooking accident. Sara Weinman, another member of the BOD, was also able to spend quality time with John and Susan when they lived with her family while they were in the US. Since that time both Brian and Sara became increasingly involved with Engeye Scholars; Brian collected and shipped school supplies to the schools in the village and he created and currently maintains the Engeye Scholars website. Sara has taken an active role in selling bracelets and raising funds for Engeye Scholars. Adriana King, the newest member of the ETC BOD, became involved after attending an event to raise awareness about Engeye Scholars and their mission. From the energy and momentum gathered from volunteering with Engeye Scholars and their increasing awareness of what life is like for the children and teens in Ddegeya Village, these three teens felt compelled to start their own movement. This movement would be created and run by local teens with the passion to help children and other teens a world away. ETC was born and ready to rock!

The teenagers that make up the ETC BOD are giving all they can to really make a difference in the lives of the people in Ddegeya, not just by making their fundraising events a success, but also by using their own money to sponsor children through the Engeye Scholars program. There are also many teenagers who are helping out the cause by volunteering with ETC and by sponsoring children through Engeye Scholars. Among them are teens, Greg Hickey, Robert Weinman, Bella Rody-Wright, Hannah Kassoff, Sarah King and a local group of girls who call themselves "Girls Who Care." In fact, the "Girls Who Care" are having a pancake breakfast on March 21st in Albany to raise funds for Engeye Scholars. Current fundraising activities of ETC include bringing local teens together to make necklaces to sell and raise funds for the Engeye Health clinic and Engeye Scholars. Along with the necklaces ETC members are working on obtaining support from local stores to market and sell Engeye bracelets. Sara, Brian and Adriana all hope to visit Ddegeya Village in Uganda within the next couple of years to see the Engeye Clinic in operation and to meet all of the Engeye Scholars. They also look forward to helping serve the village and the children during their stay in Uganda.
